The Hocken Collections is a research library, archive and gallery that collects widely in relation to the history and culture of New Zealand, the Pacific and Antarctica, with a special emphasis on the Otago and Southland regions of New Zealand.
The collections include books, ephemera, posters, newspapers, journals, music, maps, archives, manuscripts, photographs, paintings, drawings and film. In date, they range from the seventeenth century to the present day.
In keeping with the original Deed of Trust the Hocken Collections is open to all individuals who wish to visit our reading rooms and exhibitions. For those people who cannot visit there are research/reference services available.
The Hocken is part of the University of Otago Library.
